Sapote (Colombia) – fresh and frozen

Description

Sapote is a small to medium sized fruit with a thick, tough brown rind and bright orange flesh.

The flesh is fibrous but provides a delicious fruity flavour with hints of mango. To enjoy the flesh, it’s best to suck it away from the fibres and this is why the fruit is known as ‘chupa chupa’ in Portuguese, which translates to suck suck!

It shares similarities with the mamey sapote but has a fruitier flavour and more fibrous flesh.
