Loquats in syrup

Description

Loquats are unusual among fruit trees in that the flowers appear in the autumn or early winter, and the fruits are ripe at any time from early spring to early summer.

Loquat fruits, growing in clusters, are oval or pear-shaped, 4-7 centimetres long, with a smooth, yellow to orange skin.

The succulent, tangy flesh is yellow to orange in colour, with a predominantly sweet flavour, compared to a mixture of peach, citrus and mild mango.

The fruits are the sweetest when soft and orange.
