Our frozen cashew apples are very soft and delicate once defrosted and are therefore not suitable to be sent through our overnight courier company because they will get damaged. As a result they are only suitable for orders that will be delivered same day by our staff or by taxi – unless you agree to the fruits being damaged upon arrival (this will be okay if making juice).

We sourced this fruit especially for a television show when they were out of season and very scarce. They also had to be sent by special transport to ensure the cashew nuts stayed attached to the cashew fruit. These are the reasons for the higher than usual price. We have a few extra fruits from the shipment which are available for purchase. We are hoping to source more cashew apples and offer them at a lower price when they are next in season.

The cashew apple is the fleshy part of the cashew fruit attached to the cashew nut. Cashew nuts are well known and more widely traded than the cashew fruits, because the fruits are easily bruised and have a short shelf life.

The top end of the cashew apple is attached to the stem that comes off the tree. The bottom end of the cashew apple attaches to the cashew nut, which is encased in a shell. In botanical terms, the cashew apple is an accessory fruit that grows on the cashew seed (which is the nut).

The cashew apple can have an astringent taste which is sometimes removed by steaming the fruit for five minutes before washing it in cold water.

Cashew apple juice is delicious and has a lot of potential to become a mainstream drink of the future.
