Description
Red bananas have a red or maroon rind and deep yellow to orange colour flesh, sometimes with a hint of pink. The flavour is different to the far more commonly found cavendish banana. People often describe a subtle berry and mango like aftertaste.
This less commonly found variety is found in central America and some parts of south and southeast Asia.
It’s more nutritious than the popular yellow cavendish bananas commonly found here in the UK. They are rich in potassium, riboflavin, niacin and fibre, and the rapid energy boost given by their high sugar levels means that they’re a great snack.
