Description
Matoke are a medium-sized, short and fat banana which are harvested green, before they are mature, and then cooked. Usually they are added to a savoury meal.
You may also leave matoke to ripen fully and then enjoy fresh out of hand as a dessert banana, with a difference. They are sweet, with a slight bitter aftertaste.
In Uganda and Rwanda, the fruit is steam-cooked, and the mashed meal is considered a national dish in both countries.
A single serving of matoke contains approximately 1.5g fat, 121g carohydrate, 9.9g dietary fibre and 5.8g protein as well as a good supply of vitamins.
This product is sold based on number of bananas, not bunches.
