Gac fruit – frozen

Description

Gac is an unusual looking fruit with small spikes.

Upon ripening gac gradually changes colour from green to yellow, to dark-orange. When first harvesed the fruit is hard, but turns soft quickly.

The vibrant blood-red flesh is made up of many seeds covered in pulp.

Its flavour is less sweet and more vegetable-like, similar to carrot, avocado and tomato.

This fruit is not usually eaten fresh but rather cooked with or made into juice. The most common dish it’s used for is sticky rice, particularly Xôi G?c in Vietnam.
