Tamarillo – amber

Description

Tamarillo have become increasingly popular because of their unique flavour and nutritional benefits. They are egg shaped and also the size of an egg, or a little larger. There are 3 varieties, red, gold and amber, with the latter being marginally smaller.

They have a rich sweet-savoury flavour that tastes like ‘smokey spiced tomato’ although the amber variety have a milder sweeter flavour which is preferred by some.

Tamarillo are high in vitamins and iron, whilst being low in calories – about 40 calories per fruit.
