Prekese

Description

Prekese is a hard brittle fruit and some fruits may have cracks in the shell. This is nothing to worry about and does not affect the nutritional qualities or flavour of the fruit.

Prekese are hard brown pods with 4 ridges, which are native to Western Africa and mostly found in Ghana. The name is derived from Pr?k?s?, aka Soup Perfume, as its sweet fragrance is highly prized and used to flavour soups. The fragrance is similar to that of carob.

One of its most common uses is to spice Banga soup which is a type of palm fruit soup. It’s also used in pepper soup and in Ghana, soft drinks have been flavoured with this versatile fruit.

The fruit is regularly used as a dietary supplement rich in vitamins. The therapeutic properties of the plant have been documented since 1948 and authenticated in laboratory and field experiments.

Prekese is rich in protein, lipids, potassium, iron, magnesium, phosphorous, and vitamin C.

Our prekese ranges from 30-60g each with an average of about 45g.
