Passionfruit – purple maracuya

Description

Passionfruit are cultivated commercially in tropical and subtropical areas for the sweet and tart fruit. Most varieties are round in shape and either yellow, orange, pink or dark purple at maturity. They have a soft to firm, juicy interior filled with numerous seeds.

Our small size purple maracuya are air freight fruits from Southeast Asia. They have a stronger aroma and richer flavour than other purple passionfruit.

Most supermarket bought passionfruit are sent by sea freight which means they have to be picked early before the full flavour has developed. They travel to the UK by sea for up to 30 days before arriving on the shelves. Our air freight passionfruit arrive with us just a few days after harvest.

The fruit is both eaten and juiced; passionfruit juice is often added to other fruit juices to enhance aroma and flavour.

With low calories and a high nutrient content, they are a healthy choice.
