Mango – honey

Description

Honey mangoes, in season from June to August, are the chausa variety of mango which are mainly grown in Punjab, Pakistan’s second largest province.

They’re soft, almost fibreless and have an aromatic pleasant sweet flavour. The skin is a rich yellow colour when ripe. A unique feature of the chausa is the wrinkling on the skin which develops as the mangoes ripen.

This variety of mango was originally made popular by Sher Shah Suri, the founder of the Suri Empire. While commemorating his victory in The Battle of Chausa, he gave his favourite mango the name Chausa.

Often coined the “king of mangoes”, the chausa is sought after globally with tens of thousands of tons exported across the world throughout the three month season.
