Mango – haden

Description

Haden mangoes are one of the most widely cultivated mangoes, naturally in season with a high yield around June to July.

They are usually medium to large size, with yellow skin that ripens to a red-orange blush. They have a medium size seed and little to no fibre. They have a classic sweet mango flavour.

They originate from Florida where they were first grown from a mulgoba mango seed in the early 20th century by Captain John J. Haden, a retired U.S. army officer living in Coconut Grove near Biscayne Bay.

The haden is credited with launching the Florida mango industry and subsequently became the parent of many other mango cultivars that have been developed in Florida.
