Kinnow – fresh and dried

Description

The Kinnow is a high yield mandarin hybrid cultivated extensively in the wider Punjab region of Pakistan and India .

It is a hybrid of two citrus cultivars — ‘King’ (Citrus nobilis) × ‘Willow Leaf’ (Citrus × deliciosa).

Kinnow mature and are ready to harvets in in January or February.

These sweet aromatic fruits peel easily and have soft peel and flesh, which has a high juice content. As is common with other citrus varieties, each segment usually contains 1 or 2 seeds.

As the peel is loosely connected tom the flesh, the kinnow are harvested by cutting away at the stem rather than being pulled by hand.

The ideal kinnow is firm to slightly soft, smooth-skinned with no deep grooves, and deep orange in colour.
