Jocote (yellow and green) also known as Spanish plum

Description

A new arrival from St Lucia, our Spanish plums are a small green fruit that ripen to a yellow colour. In the Caribbean they are often referred to as plum and are also well known as jocote or jacote.

Leave them to ripen and they are sweet and a little sour evoking flavours similar to mango and cashew apple. The fruits have a thin layer of flesh surrounding a central seed, which is large for the size of the fruit itself.

The Spanish plums can also be eaten unripe, typically with salt or pickled.
