Coconut – king coconut

Description

King coconuts are a bright orange variety of coconut, native to Sri Lanka, that are harvested when around 3 months old. The clear refreshing water inside is sweeter than other young coconuts.

The king coconut tree is shorter than coconut trees, and are found commonly growing wild in many areas of Sri Lanka and also in Kerala.

Due to the popularity of king coconuts, Sri Lanka now exports bottled king coconut water.

The health benefits of king coconuts are well-known to any Sri Lankan. It is said that the water will expel heat from the body and soothe the digestive system. The water contains quite a few minerals, some carbohydrates, fats, calcium, vitamin C, phosphorus, iron, and a little protein. The electrolytic balance of the mixture makes it an ideal hydration drink for those suffering from heat exhaustion, gastric upset, or cholera.
