Please do not order if you are worried about the colour of the blood orange, we can’t always determine what the blood orange will be like inside.

The blood orange is a natural mutation of the orange. It has crimson, almost blood-coloured flesh.

Some can be tart, while others are sweet, but they all display the characteristic Blood orange taste.

They can be used to create marmalade, and the zest is used for baking.

A popular Sicilian winter salad is made with sliced Blood oranges, sliced bulb fennel, and olive oil.

Blood oranges are a source of vitamin C like all citrus fruits. A medium-sized orange also provides 28% of the recommended daily intake of dietary fibre.

Blood oranges’ red pigment anthocyanin is an antioxidant, and as a result, they contain greater amounts of antioxidants than other oranges.

Moro variety – the moro variety has the deepest blood colour throughout the whole orange.

Sanguinelli variety – the sanguinelli variety is a lighter red in colour and slightly more sporadic in colouring.

Tarocco rosso variety – the tarocco rosso variety is lighter red in colour and only has a few blood red patches. On the whole you should expect a mixture of orange-red pigmentation inside. The peel is bright orange.
