Description

Although pomelo closely resemble grapefruit, they are a species in their own right. They are sometimes known as shaddocks, after the sea captain who brought them from Polynesia to the West Indies. Pomelo are the largest citrus fruit in the world, weighing up to 5kgs however most export quality fruits are around 1-2kgs.

Honey pomelo is a marketing term used to indicate the sweeter varieties. They are usually pale green to yellow when ripe, with citrus-sweet white flesh. The flesh tastes like a sweet, mild grapefruit. It has none, or very little, of the common grapefruit’s bitterness. The pith around the segments is bitter, and not usually eaten.

Pomelo have a high concentration of vitamin C.

It is believed that consuming honey pomelo can help to cure the condition, acid reflux.
