Passionfruit – purple

Description

Passionfruit are cultivated commercially in tropical and subtropical areas for the sweet and tart fruit. Most varieties are round in shape and either yellow, orange, pink or dark purple at maturity. They have a soft to firm, juicy interior filled with numerous seeds.

Our purple passionfruit are small fruits with sweet-sour orange coloured pulp.

The fruit is both eaten and juiced; passionfruit juice is often added to other fruit juices to enhance aroma and flavour.

With low calories and a high nutrient content, they are a healthy choice. Passionfruit contain vitamin C, fibre, vitamin A, potassium, iron, phosphorus, magnesium and vitamin B6.

Passion Fruit acquired it’s name from Spanish missionaries who saw the plant’s distinctly shaped flower as a symbol of Christ’s crucifixion.
