Manila tamarind

Description

Manila tamarind are a very perishable fruit. Due to this we have to source them after you order rather than have them in stock at all times. Please email us to add this fruit to your order.

The Manila tamarind is common through South East Asia and India. It’s rarely grown commerically but you can often find individuals selling it in the street after harvesting it from their garden.

The seed pods contain a sweet and sour pulp.

Most people eat the fruit out-of-hand.

In Mexico it’s eaten raw as an accompaniment to various meat dishes and used as a base for drinks with sugar and water (agua de huamúchil).

The seeds are also edible and refined to extract oil, which amounts to 10% of their weight. They also contain 28% protein.
