Jamun – frozen

Description

Jamun, one of the most popular fruits in India, grows on trees that can live more than 100 years. As the fruit matures, the colour changes from green to pink to blood red to black when it is ready to harvest in May or June. The oblong fruits are similar size to blackberries but with smooth skin.

Jamun have a unique flavour that is described as a combination of mildly sour, sweet and astringent.

The seeds of jambolan are used in various alternative healing systems like Ayurveda, Unani and Chinese medicine.

The nutritional value that this fruit brings includes being a high source of vitamin A and vitamin C.
