The tree that bears this magnificent fruit grows up to 10 metres, and produces orange-yellow fruit.

Egg fruit flesh is sweet with a texture, that believe it or not, is similar to that of a hard-boiled egg yolk! (hence its colloquial name).

The best varieties of egg fruit have a creamy mousse-like texture. The flavour is rich and is reminiscent of an egg-custard. People also note hints of sweet potato and maple in the flavour of egg fruit.

The egg fruit fruit may contain between one and six large brown seeds.

Egg fruit is closely related to the Mamey sapote and abiu.

This incredible fruit can complement many other flavours including: cinnamon, turmeric, vanilla, orange, maple syrup, pecans, walnuts, ginger, almond, chocolate and coconut.
